Do you want to create a dream business? Or would you simply like more happiness in your Life? It doesn’t matter what your goals are, if you want to achieve them faster, then creating a Successful Mindset is crucial!
Having the right mindset is essential in creating any kind of success in your life because your mindset shapes how you see the world around you and thus how you respond to it and consequentially the outcome. Just as importantly it affects the way you feel. It has the power to motivate you into taking the right action, to open you up to new possibilities but it also has the ability to trap you into limited thinking. For example, if you think you can do something, you generally can and you find a way to make it work but if you start thinking you can’t, excuses such as, I’m not smart enough, I don’t have enough money, I don’t have the right skillset … then you find yourself focusing on the roadblocks and sure enough you’re a self-fulfilling prophecy.
“If you think you can, you can. If you think you can’t, you can’t.” Henry Ford
The great news is that a Success Mindset can be developed over time. Given a mindset is merely a series of self-perceptions or beliefs that you hold about yourself, these can be changed.
As Albert Einstein said “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”
Here are Seven Easy Steps that you can take to Boost Your Mindset for Success:
Step #1 – Define Your Success
The very first thing we recommend to all our students is to write out what their dream business or life looks like in as much detail as possible. At this point it doesn’t matter how you’re going to achieve this. This process really helps you to become clear on what matters to you. This is a very important step, so give yourself plenty of time to go over every aspect of your life; career, relationship, health, passions and purpose.
It is far easier to come up with an action plan if you know where you want to go!
Step #2 – Set Goals Based on your Definition of Success
Now it’s time to break the information you created in step one into stretch goals. Stretch goals are goals that both scare and excite you. From these stretch goals you can create a mind map of smaller goals, breaking it down into realistic blocks of time, into weeks and days.
Creating the Right Goals for you is essential to helping you stay on task, for motivation, and they allow you to track your progress. They also enable you to break down your stretch goals into small bite size actionable tasks.
Step #3 – Build Habits that Support Your Goals
I find the easiest way to stay on task, is to create positive habits that support your goals. Particularly as a social entrepreneur working from home, creating a schedule and routine helps keep the momentum and motivation levels up.
Sometimes things don’t always go to plan – the unexpected arises, or something takes longer than you expect or sometimes you want to take advantage of being your own boss and you end up doing something nice with a friend instead. That’s okay. Being flexible is a good trait for a social entrepreneur to have. Instead of beating yourself for missing a deadline just set yourself a challenge to make up for lost time or simply return to your regular routine.
Step #4 – Find your Motivation and Inspiration
Let’s face it we all have days when our motivation levels are low. The trick here is to have little go to activities that act as quick pick me ups. Anything that shifts your mindset, that gets you truly inspired and uplifted.
It could be listening to music, affirmations or watching inspirational speakers on YouTube. It could be reading inspirational quotes, affirmations or blogs. If my daughter is around, we would have a laugh following along to the latest dance on Tick Tok. What ever gets your blood pumping and energy levels rising.
Step #5 – Be Persistent and Take Action
No matter what your goals are you are always going to have ups and downs, the key thing here is to keep going. Take Action!!
True success is determined by how well you handle your losses. So shift your mindset so that you see obstacles as opportunities, and mistakes and setbacks as learnings. If something goes wrong, analyze what happened and chalk that up to a good learning opportunity. For us, teaching is not only about what steps to take along the road to success, it’s also teaching our students the pitfalls – some of which we would have never been able to talk about If we hadn’t experienced them ourselves.
Step #6 – Engage in Positivity
This step might seem ‘airy fairy’ but trust me don’t underestimate the power of positivity.
Having a positive outlook not only makes us feel good but it also affects the way we react to our environment. When we are pleasant to be around, we are more likely to attract the right people and right experiences to support our social entrepreneur journey. As they say in science ‘like attracts like’.
Positivity also includes positive self-talk. The little voice in our heads, that has the power to criticize and nit-pick and bring us down but also the power to encourage, to motivate, to uplift. Studies at the Mayo Clinic showed that if you want to have a more optimistic outlook, you have to practice positive thoughts. Which makes sense, because your repetitive thoughts become ingrained into your subconscious mind, turning your thoughts into a self-fulfilling prophecy. So be very MINDFUL about your thoughts and even your words that you speak.
As Napoleon Hill said, “There are no limitations to the mind except those we acknowledge. Both poverty and riches are the offspring of thought.”
Practice gratitude. You can’t be criticising yourself and practicing gratitude at the same time. Try it, you’ll be surprised how transforming this simple exercise can be.
Another thing to improve your outlook is to get plenty of quality sleep. This might seem a strange one but in actual fact latest research has shown that ‘sleep’ is the number one factor that determines ones happiness. When you’re feeling good, you are more likely to feel engaged and motivated.
Step #7– Reward Yourself
Remember to reward yourself when you reach each of your milestones. When you achieve one milestone and replace it with another, you might quickly forget how far you have come and your success will always be something in the future.
Working in a 9 to 5 job you might have been praised or rewarded by your boss but as a social entrepreneur you are often your own boss, so it’s important for moral boosting to pat yourself on the back for the little wins.
Not only do we get the physical reward and the mental satisfaction of achievement, having something to look forward to, at the end of a mini goal keeps us motivated and on track.
No matter what your goals are, having the right frame of mind can make all the difference between achieving your goals and not.
By following these seven simple steps, I guarantee that you are well on your way to building your Successful Mindset.
